Hockey – Youth

The Peoria Park District is the place to learn how to play hockey… check out our programming below!


Pre-Hockey

Learn the preliminary fundamentals of hockey while increasing your skating skills. The Coordinator of Hockey must approve your skill level to take this class.  Pre-Hockey is offered from September to January.
  • Full equipment required.
  • For ages 5-13.

Intro to Hockey

This class is offered during the spring and focuses on hockey skills.
Eligibility: Skating Star Level 2 or Super Skates Level 1.
Equipment required: HECC certified hockey helmet with mask, shin pads, elbow pads, hockey gloves, athletic cup and supporter, and hockey stick.  Recommended equipment includes hockey pants and shoulder pads. Skate rental is included in the fee.  Equipment is available to purchase at Owens Center in the Edge Pro shop.

Chicago Blackhawks/Minor Hawk Learn to Play Program

The Chicago Blackhawks, Peoria Park District and PYHA host this 4 week program is offered during spring and fall with focus on skating, stickhandling, passing, shooting, and cross ice game play.  Eligibility not more than one year experience in PYHA. Register with USA Hockey at usahockeyregistration.com. USA hockey registration is required; however, players 6 and under are free. Proof of membership is required at registration. All participants receive a free Blackhawks jersey for participating!
  • Full equipment rental is provided.
  • For ages 3-8.

50/50 Clinic

The 50/50 clinic is offered in the spring for Mite, Squirt, and Pee Wee levels. It consists of 30 minutes of instruction, followed by 30 minutes of scrimmage. Goaltenders are welcome!

Peoria Youth Hockey Association exists to promote the growth of ice hockey in the Peoria area by encouraging, developing and administering the sport. PYHA endeavors to develop and prepare players and coaches to achieve optimal performance at all levels while providing essential information, quality instruction and a positive experience through participation in the program.
