Adult recreation programs at Peoria Park District, like in many other communities, play a crucial role in enhancing the overall well-being and quality of life for adults. These programs contribute to creating a vibrant and healthy community, fostering connections among residents, and promoting the well-being of adults in the area.
Peoria Pops is a full symphony orchestra (including saxophones) composed of volunteers who register for the group via the PPD website. You can sign up for the whole year or four months at a time depending on your availability. Our motto is “We make music fun!” Peoria Pops is the orchestra of the people. No auditions, no overly strict rehearsal requirements, we just want everyone in our community to have a place to play their instrument. Players must be at or above high school level playing ability.
Performances indoors or outdoors are possible, weather permitting. Available year-round, evenings and weekends only, fee is negotiable.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a nature enthusiast, our guided hikes cater to all skill levels, offering a perfect blend of adventure and education.
Wreath Making Classes
Seasonally, enjoy a wreath making class at Luthy Botanical Garden! Create your very own wreath, using the foliage and textures of the season. Your wreath will be the perfect seasonal complement to a front door, window or fireplace mantel. We will provide all the supplies & greenery, just bring pruners & gloves. These programs are offered in November and December every year.
Container Garden Classes
Create a container garden with mom…or for mom! It’s a gift that keeps on growing, for a front porch, patio, deck. This is a hands-on class that you can register in advance and select any 1-hour time-slot. This program is offered annually in May.
Experience a beautiful display of plants, and themed designs that come together against the lush, tropical plants in the Conservatory at Luthy Botanical Garden. These shows are a great time to visit the Garden and experience the beauty of the seasons. Come visit an array of pastel delights at our spring Lily Show, followed by the warmth and richness of our Mum Show every fall. End the year with the beauty of the Poinsettia Show. All shows will be listed as events on the website.
Peoria Park District is proud to host our Moonlight Coalition for Adult Learning program. Moonlight provides GED and adult literacy education to adults ages 17 and over at Proctor Recreation Center and Logan Recreation Center. Learn more by clicking the button below.

Looking for a drop-in program or event? We have a myriad of adult-only events throughout the year including Zootini at Peoria Zoo, Hopscoch at Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum and Jazz by the Pool at Proctor Recreation Center.
