Specialty Trails

The Peoria Park District has some amazing multi-park trails that are destinations for hikers, bikers and explores alike! Learn more about these true gems in our community below, and come check them out!

All trails are open dawn-dusk. Trails have been routed to avoid sensitive natural areas, so we ask you to please stay on the trails.

Know before you go:

  • Trails are open dawn to dusk
  • STAY on the trails
  • Be on the lookout for hazards: mud, poison ivy, limbs, insects, and more!
  • Respect neighboring properties: do not use private roads or cross private land.
  • Do not use access areas that are not identified on the trail map.
  • Call (309) 691-3098 or (309) 682-6684 for downed trees, washouts or areas that require maintenance.

Almost 7 miles of river bluff trails are connected to create a showcase of trails, as diverse as Peoria itself. Explorers will enjoy mature trees, flat to steep topography, bridges, creeks and a tunnel along your scenic journey. The Illinois River Bluff Trail connects four Peoria Park District parks: Camp Wokanda, Robinson Park, Green Valley Camp and Detweiller Park.

Please only enter and exit at these trailheads. Do not attempt to access trail from Route 6, as this is extremely dangerous and you will be ticketed.

The Rock Island Greenway is a paved hiker and bikers paradise- spanning 13 miles that takes you from Dunlap down to Downtown Peoria. Formerly the Kellar Branch rail line, the route highlights some notable scenic stops including Donovan Park, Springdale Cemetery and Savanna and Glen Oak Park

State of Illinois Rock Island Trail: Parking and restrooms available

Bicycle Safety Town: Parking and restrooms available. When restrooms are closed for the winter, an ADA portable toilet is available at this location.

Donovan Park: Parking and restrooms available

Glen Oak Park: Parking and seasonal restrooms available

Gateway Building: Parking and seasonal restrooms available

Trail Etiquette:
  • Share the trail.
  • Show courtesy to other trail users at all times.
  • Obey all traffic signs.
  • Keep right, except to pass.
  • Pass on the left. Give an audible warning before passing – “on your left”, or ring bike bell.
  • If in a group or with your pet, use no more than half of the trail.
  • When stopping, move off the trail.
  • Keep dogs on a maximum 6’ leash and pick up aftery our pet.
  • Bicycles must yield to pedestrians – ride at a safe speed. “Wheels yield to heels”.
  • Respect the rights of adjacent property owners. Stay off private property.

This 40-acre park is in rural north Peoria, is home to over 13 miles of singletrack for mountain biking and hiking! Kinsey Park is a collaboration between the Peoria Area Mountain Bike Association (PAMBA) and the Peoria Park District. The initial phases of the park were geared towards beginners but are designed to to be fun for all skill levels. As the park has been developed, more challenging trails have been added. No matter your skill level, you will have a blast at Kinsey. For fast and flowy, try the Toto Loop (beginner’s loop) or Land of Oz. For tight and twisty, look for F4 or Dorothy. If you want to put in some work, head to Flying Monkeys or Cowardly Lion. Did we mention the park is Wizard of Oz themed? Just follow the Yellow Brick Road…
