Yoga/Tai Chi

Yoga and Tai Chi are both great forms of exercise that can help reduce stress and improve flexibility and muscle strength.  The Peoria Park District has several great opportunities for you to practice yoga and Tai Chi with classes offered at locations throughout the District.  To see which class bests fits your needs, click on the Yoga/Tai Chi title above.


Gentle Yoga

Reduce stress and improve muscle tone and flexibility with modified yoga. This class is suitable for beginners, those with experience, and adults with varying ability and physical limitations. Postures are modified by using the chair, barre, or standing position to accommodate all levels.

Drop in Yoga

Reduce stress while toning and stretching. This fitness based class has an emphasis on poses and breathing, and is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.  Ages 16+
  • $4.50/class or purchase a 12-visit punch card for $48 (all evening class participants must purchase a punch card as the instructors do not accept cash).

Yoga with Jean Sloan

Experience the many benefits of yoga in the tranquil setting of Forest Park Nature Center.  This beginning class will combine gentle postures, breathing practices, and relaxation with an emphasis on self-acceptance and discovery. No prior experience is necessary.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi reduces tension and improves circulation and balance while increasing strength and flexibility through stretching and turning within a sequence of movements that improve the health of body, mind, and spirit.

Tai Chi for Beginners

Tai Chi, a Chinese martial art, can be practiced for health benefits. In this beginner’s class we will present basic moves for balancing, centering, calming, and energizing. No fighting, just tapping into some chi (life energy).
