I Want To:

HISRA/Inclusion

The Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA) is the result of a desire on the part of the Chilicothe, Morton, Peoria and Washington park districts to provide quality recreation programs and services to individuals with disabilities and special needs. HISRA and its member districts enthusiastically support the spirit and intent of the Americans With Disabilities Act. HISRA is committed to providing opportunities for each individual to enjoy recreation activities in the least restrictive environment possible.

Athletics

HISRA participates in Special Olympics Illinois offering basketball, track & field, aquatics, bowling, golf and softball to individuals with disabilities 8 years and older.  Children ranging in age 2-7 can participate in our Young Athletes program where they will learn the fundamentals of sports.  Lastly, our agency is home to the Peoria Wildcats Wheelchair Basketball team.

Center-Based Programming

These programs take place at the HISRA office located in North Peoria.  We offer center-based programs to individuals with disabilities from 2 years of age to adult, depending on the program.  Such programs include seasonal dances, respite-type programs for parents and/or caregivers as well as social events for teens and adults.

Community-Based Programming

Our community-based programming is available to adults ages 19 years and older.  We travel to venues in the Central Illinois area for events such as Peoria Chiefs games, the Festival of Lights and the Galesburg Balloon Race.  HISRA staff provides transportation from our facility to these venues.

Inclusion

Is there a Chillicothe, Morton, Peoria or Washington Park District program you would like to participate in, but wonder if you might need some assistance from HISRA? Visit our website and fill out an Inclusion Request Form. We will assess the participant or athlete, contact the park district staff in regards to the program and provide assistance as appropriate! For more information about our inclusion services, please contact our office!
