Rocky Glen

Located off of Kickapoo Creek Rd., you won’t find a more rugged outdoor experience in Peoria than hiking Rocky Glen. Known locally as a “Miniature Starved Rock,” Rocky Glen boasts a waterfall that freezes in the winter and offers spectacular views that are worth the hike. Dirt trails wind through thick forests, taking you to stops that include expansive views of Peoria. Any experience level could tackle these trails however, they are difficult and there are significant elevation changes. These trails are not ADA accessible.

Rocky Glen Park is 126-acre park gem located on the edge of town. Enjoy periodic benches along the trail that will give you a reprieve from your hiking adventure! While the hills are steeper, you enjoy rock formations and a unique hike similar to Starved Rock State Park.

Will your next hike at Rocky Glen count towards a special incentive gift? Join Forest Park Nature’s Hundred Mile Hiker Club and after completing 100 miles receive a special T-shirt, then register to receive an exclusive, fully embroidered Hundred Mile Hiker Patch at 250 miles. After completing 250 miles, you are eligible to register for 500 miles to receive a lapel pin. Registration fees are $15 and are payable at the FPNC’s Trailhead Nature Store.

The Friends of Rocky Glen is a nonprofit organization formed in 2010 to protect Rocky Glen, a unique and historical geologic area in West Peoria, Illinois. Private property was purchased by the City of Peoria in December 2012 and deeded to the Peoria Park District to form Rocky Glen Park. With community financial support, a parking lot and trails were established, including signage and benches.
