Skills and Learning

The Peoria Park District isn’t just about fine arts and fitness… check out the other skills we can help you learn.  From Mah Jongg to chess to a local book club, the Peoria Park District can help you expand your horizons!

Mah Jongg

This is not the computer game, but a fun and challenging game with 3-4 players per table. This old and popular game originating in China will exercise your mental muscles while spending time with friends. This is an open program with no hands on instructor.  On the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month, peer instruction will be offered to those who would like to learn how to play.

  • Monday/Wednesday • 1-3 pm • Ongoing
  • Ages 50+ • Noble Center
  • $1 per visit

Spanish/English Class

Learning a second language may be a little difficult in a large classroom setting, but not at Logan! Here, our classes are catered to your specific needs to learn in a small group. Vamos a prender! (Come and Learn!)

  • Location:  Logan Recreation Center

Inner City Men’s Chess, Pool and Dominoes Club

Play chess, shoot pool, or play dominoes in a fun, safe, and inviting environment. Learn how to play or come to improve your game skills.

  • Location: Proctor Recreation Center

Community Education

The Peoria Park District partners with local organizations in the community to bring free ongoing education to the public. Some of our partners include AARP, Alzheimer’s Association, local hospitals and healthcare organizations.

Book Smarts: Peer Book Review

Have you read a good book lately? Are you looking for a good book to read? This is not a book club, but an opportunity for fellow book lovers to come together and give a brief overview and opinion of recent books they have read and to share with the group for potential books to also read. Please bring the name and title of the book you would like to discuss with others. This is also your chance to hear others review books that you might be interested in.
