Park District’s Theater Education for Children
In collaboration with Peoria area schools, the Park District operates Theatre Education for Children (TEC) which is a 10 week program offered twice during the school year. The Fall semester focuses on creative dramatic and acting skills while the Winter/Spring semester focuses on play production. A short play is presented at the school in April each year.
Our drama programs are partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
ShiningStars: Ages 3-6
ShiningStars is a great way to introduce theatre to children! We are proud to present an exciting dramatic play program for preschoolers that uses fun exercises and games to encourage bravery, confidence, and creativity when communicating with others. In the course of each class, the children will work together as a team to share, listen, and respond. They will gain confidence in their bodies, their voices, and their minds. Each session concludes with a live production where the children work together to create backdrops, costumes, and star in the show!
Theatre Education for Children
TEC classes are offered to students in Peoria Public Schools, Peoria Heights Community Unit School District 325, and private schools. Teachers meet with students at the school once per week and work on basic acting skills and theatre techniques and produce a short play to be presented at their school. The program culminates at the Annual Drama Festival in May. See Playbook for more information.
