World’s Largest Swim Lesson

Gwynn Family Aquatic Center will join an international effort to set a world record and possibly save some lives in the process. This international event involves 600 waterparks, aquatic facilities and other swimming pools in more than 20 countries around the world. The WLSL was created in 2010 by the World Waterpark Association to stress the importance of teaching children to swim and prevent drowning.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about ten people die from unintentional drowning every day in the United States, two of which are children age 14 or younger. Drowning ranks fifth among causes for unintentional injury death in the nation.
Beginner participants will learn basic breathing and kicking techniques of swimming, while more advanced students will practicetreading water, swimming underwater and even diving.
